3.72 Diff Ratio Crown Wheel and Pinion sets suit 80 series and HZJ75
3.72 Diff Ratio Crown Wheel and Pinion sets suit 80 series and HZJ75
This order is for a front and rear set together. These crown wheel and pinion sets come with solid pinion spacers for front and rear diffs. Our solid spacer kits come with shims to get the correct thickness or you can select a machinable spacer without shims that will need to machined to the correct length.
The diff ratio change is recommended for those with a manual transmission and performance upgrades in the following models.
Direct fit into HDJ80 / HZJ80 / HZJ75 manual transmission - uses VDJ79 rear bearing kit and VDJ79 flange plate and 80 series front bearing and seal kit with 80 series front flange.
For 60 series, need to use 2 rear crown wheel and pinion sets.
These will provide a nice 10% drop from the higher 4.1 ratio fitted to the 80 series. This will give longer legs in every gear and lower revs on the highway. Towing is much more acceptable in 4th gear at 100kph.
Also worth considering is the mechanical LSD Torsen centres, which make the power delivery much better on and off road, while place less stress on your drivetrain than locking diffs.
Rear diff pinion is 32 spline (same as VDJ79) and front is 27 spline (standard).
100 / 105 / 79 Series Install
These are direct fit into these models using the latest and strongest pinion spline count/design. That means you may need to buy a set of pinion flanges to get the best result possible.
80 Series Install
It is possible to use these gears in the front of the 80 series cruisers without cutting. To fit the 3.5 ratio diffs you will need a 100/79 carrier/centre/locker/elocker etc as the way the crown wheel mounts is very different, but they will have 32 spline drive to the axles. Your 80 series will have 30 spline so you won’t be able to install the axles without changing the side gears. This may require buying a second centre of the same type with the plan to change out the side gears.
We have 3.72 ratio crown wheel and pinion sets that are a direct fit to your 80 series so this will go together normally.
When installing these in a HDJ79/HDJ78 or 100 and 105 series the bearings and possibly the flange plate will need to upgraded as we are using the latest and strongest design.
