Performance Diesel Intercooler Kit for Landcruiser HDJ79
The HDJ79 seems to be something Toyota designed by merging the HZJ79 with a HDJ100 drivetrain. There are indications it never got the same attention that other models did, but we are certainly pleased they did. The drivetrain is what makes this the highly desired work-horse or play thing, especially once modified.
Back in 2018, we posted on our news page about the development for these and how we got the final package (although it continued after that).
We would normally ask, what the final result is that you wish to get with vehicle mods so that everything added supports the final level of modifications. Once we know if you want a slight increase, better towing capability, double the power or over 3 times factory power levels then we can suggest the most cost effective and reliable solution. The end result for our cruiser was that the power delivery was so electric we needed to fit a cruise control unit to make highway driving easier. It was the only vehicle where, if you stopped paying attention you were 10-20kph above or below the intended speed.
PDI front mounted kits are available with either the crossover and butterfly in place (above the turbo) or a crossover delete kit, which uses a custom forward facing adapter, bolted directly onto the intake manifold.
PDI Airboxes - our own cast alloy and machined boxes using the 200 series Landcruiser panel filter and over-centre latches to secure the lid in place are required when running high flow injectors and upgraded turbo with the plan to run in excess of 25psi.
GTurbo performance turbos. The turbos are a direct bolt on using the same centre housing configuration for water and oil feed and return. The exhaust housing uses the same as all 1HD engines. The compressor cover has the same 2” outlet and the inlet can be either 3” or 3.5”. PDI supply airbox to turbo plumbing for those changing turbos.
The GTurbo G350 suits standard or high flow injectors for those chasing a good all round turbo. Most efficient around 25psi it can be run up to 35psi successfully.
The GTurbo G400 has very agressive power delivery while remaining good to drive (not too laggy) and is the go to turbo for those chasing 400hp at the wheels.
The Gturbo Titanium wheel is their latest release and we hear nothing but great results in response and power output. A definite consideration if thinking 35psi and above is where you want to be.
Exchange upgraded Injectors - we like the +70 injectors for delivery and these can be run with turbo, intercooler and a boost dongle for a great result without a chip/module. We also stock +30 injectors.
Brake booster upgrades 2 bolt master cylinder. This is the potentially the biggest improvement you can make for your braking system with a 50% increase in pressure to the master cylinder. PDI also stock replacement braided brake lines.
Bash plate - made from 3mm mild steel and zinc plated, then painted black. this unit replaces the fibre re-inforced plastic cover, which is the only thing protecting the bottom tank on the radiator.
NPC 1300nm clutch kits - these provide great torque holding capability, smooth engagement and a light pedal.
Diff gear changes. Can install 3.54 and 3.909 ratio gear but needs more work (cost) to make them fit in the rear diff.
Torsen Mechanical LSD Differential centres - we know these are a huge improvement over the poorly designed factory rear LSD. We are also sure that these are more suitable for most customers, than actual diff locks and given the HDJ79 has a part time transfer case we would install these front and rear.
