PDI has been working hard to develop a serious cooling upgrade for the Toyota 300 Series.

Under sustained load, towing, touring and high ambient temperatures, the factory heat exchanger and transmission cooling system can become heat soaked very quickly and therefore derates the power from about 55 Degrees. We wanted to develop a package that provides significantly more cooling capacity while maintaining efficient coolant flow.

We’re now excited to introduce our complete 300 Series cooling package, featuring:

• Massive Stacked Plate Heat Exchanger
Increased cooling surface area and capacity to help keep intercooler coolant temperatures under control during sustained load. Unlike a traditional bar and plate core that we would use for our other intercoolers, the stacked plate design is specifically suited to liquid-to-liquid heat transfer, providing a large heat transfer surface area in a compact package for efficient heat transfer between the intercooler coolant and ambient cooling circuit.

• Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler
Additional transmission cooling capacity to help manage temperatures when towing, touring or operating in demanding conditions.

• 11″ Thermo Fan
Provides dedicated airflow through the upgraded cooling system, particularly when vehicle speed is low or the vehicle is working hard and also to suit new models with a thermo fan.

The result is a complete cooling solution engineered specifically for the 300 Series, designed for Australian conditions and the demands of modified and heavily loaded vehicles.

300 Series Cooling System & Fan Options

The 300 Series uses a complex twin-sequential turbocharger system, with both turbos positioned in the V of the engine and the intake ports located on the outside of the engine. Due to this layout, Toyota uses a water-to-air intercooling system.

The intercooler operates on a separate coolant circuit from the engine cooling system, with the coolant being cooled through the factory fluid-to-air heat exchangers located under each headlight.

We found that intake temperatures can have a significant effect on ECU power and torque management. Even relatively small increases in intake temperature can result in the ECU reducing power output.

For a tuned or heavily loaded 300 Series, maintaining low and consistent intake temperatures is therefore critical. The aim of the PDI upgrade is not simply to increase coolant volume, but to extract heat from the intercooler coolant and efficiently dissipate it, allowing the system to maintain lower coolant and intake temperatures under sustained load.

To maximise the performance of the upgraded heat exchanger, PDI offers different configurations to suit the various 300 Series models and their factory cooling layouts.

For models that come equipped with a factory fan, the factory fan is replaced with a supplied 11″ thermo fan. The supplied fan is designed to sit neatly in front of the new PDI heat exchanger, providing dedicated airflow through the larger heat exchanger while maintaining a clean installation.

For models that do not have a factory fan, the same 11″ thermo fan can be supplied as part of the kit. The fan can be wired through a relay and triggered by ignition, allowing it to operate whenever the vehicle is running.

This gives the PDI cooling system dedicated airflow across the upgraded heat exchanger, regardless of which 300 Series year model you have.
