PDI 4WD Brake Upgrade Parts & Kits suit Nissan GQ GU Y61 Series.

Price range: $460.00 through $2,640.00 incl. GST

Improve braking performance in your Nissan Patrol with the PDI Dual Diaphragm Brake Booster engineered to deliver significantly higher hydraulic brake assist and increased stopping confidence, especially in heavy touring and towing applications.
Compared to standard factory boosters and common “30% upgrade” options, the PDI brake booster provides up to a 50% increase in assist ratio, making it one of the largest and most effective brake booster upgrades available for the Patrol range.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Dual diaphragm design for increased brake assist
  • Larger booster diameter for higher hydraulic pressure
  • Improved braking response and reduced pedal effort
  • Designed for heavily loaded vehicles, towing, GVM upgrades and larger tyres
  • Engineered to exceed ADR brake performance specifications
  • Direct improvement in stopping performance and driver confidence
The increased brake assist allows the braking system to achieve maximum performance from standard and upgraded tyre setups while improving overall pedal feel and emergency stopping capability.

Designed for Heavy Duty 4WD Use

The PDI Dual Diaphragm Brake Booster is particularly effective on vehicles fitted with:

  • GVM upgrades
  • Larger wheel and tyre packages
  • Touring accessories and canopies
  • Towing setups and increased GCM loads
For demanding 4WD applications, improved brake assist can make a substantial difference in vehicle control and stopping distance.
Premium DBA Brake Components
To complement the upgraded booster, we recommend pairing the system with premium DBA braking components.
DBA 4000 Series Rotors
DBA 4000 Series rotors feature advanced ventilation and high carbon alloy construction for improved heat dissipation, durability and resistance to brake fade under heavy loads.
DBA XP Brake Pads
DBA XP pads are ideal for 4WD and touring vehicles, delivering strong initial bite, excellent cold performance and reliable braking under everyday driving and heavy duty conditions.
Why Upgrade Your Patrol Brakes?
Factory Patrol brakes are known for lacking stopping power, especially once the vehicle is fitted with accessories, larger tyres, canopies or towing setups. Increased vehicle weight and wheel size can significantly reduce braking performance, resulting in longer stopping distances and increased pedal effort.
The PDI Dual Diaphragm Brake Booster is designed to address these shortcomings by delivering substantially higher brake assist and improved hydraulic pressure. The result is stronger braking performance, better pedal feel and increased driver confidence both on and off road.
Typically suspension upgrades have a spacer for the Load Proportioning Valve (LPV) rod to compensate for different ride height, but never had the brakes work at their best. Once a PDI Brake Booster is installed, you will finally see the need to adjust the LPV (only for non-ABS models) to have the ability to get both the front and rear wheels to lock up at the same time. The significant increase in braking performance will most likely change the way you drive, starting just minutes after making the changes.

Additional Information

Initially we focused on the Landcruiser brake upgrade (since it was my daily and the 79 series isn’t great), but a mate who was fully into his Nissan Patrols said that they needed the same update.

One of the those is the 79 series, which are fine for normal use, but just don’t pull up well if you have to stop in a hurry. The brakes on the PDI 79 Series have been amazing since the day the PDI dual diaphragm brake booster was fitted. Without a doubt this was the biggest improvement possible to braking – having people in the passenger seat reach for something to grab before hitting the brakes into a corner, brings some extra joy into the drive.

It give extra confidence, being able to pull up hard after accelerating hard and waiting late to brake before a corner.  The original disks and 4WD pads stayed in there until they were worn out.  Towing a heavy car trailer (loaded) and without functional trailer brakes doesn’t mean we couldn’t pull up hard in an emergency – in fact the only issue is if the roads are wet.

PDI have been supplying upgraded brake boosters and braided lines since 2019. We’ve also been driving modified cruisers for much longer so know how to get best “bang for buck” results.

DBA have options of slotted rotors and cross-drilling which is familiar on race cars and therefore popular in the performance scene.  Many people ask for the as they are deemed to be better, so lets be clear – the drilling increases surface area for more heat to be expelled and the slots are for the de-gassing of the pads, when running very hot. Great improvements, but when it comes to 4WD, people aren’t driving with very very hot rotors and the compromise is that if you go offroad there is a possibility of sticks and rocks being pulled into the pads, by the holes and slots, which then embeds into the pad and starts to destroy the rotor (quickly). Therefore, we supply non-slotted rotors.
