The PDI MAP Sensor Filter is designed to protect your vehicle’s MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor from oil contamination and pressure related failures which are common issues found in turbo diesel Toyota engines, particularly those fitted with VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbo) systems.
The MAP sensor plays a critical role in monitoring intake pressure, controlling fuel delivery and managing turbo vane operation. When oil vapour from the intake system reaches the sensor, it can affect sensor accuracy or lead to premature failure. Replacing a damaged MAP sensor can be expensive, making preventative protection a smart investment.
Over time, the factory plastic MAP sensor filter housing can become brittle from repeated heat cycles and pressure changes. Cracks in the housing can cause incorrect pressure readings to the ECU, leading to reduced performance and potential turbocharger issues.
On 1HD-FTE engines, a failed MAP filter may simply result in reduced power output. However, on later Toyota D4D engines with VNT turbos, incorrect MAP readings can cause the ECU to over adjust turbo vane position, potentially creating excessive exhaust temperatures.
